RULES of Castrol Football Challenge matches
- RULE 1 – General Participation
- 1.1. All teams and all players will be subject to current rules and regulations stated herein.
- 1.2. All players must be within grades 10, 11, and 12.
- 1.3. Teams may be made of all male
- 1.4. There must be a minimum of 8 teams participating.
- RULE 2 - Field of Play
- 2.1. The pitches will closely resemble one of the options presented in Annex C.
- 2.2. The field of play will be 30m (L) and 20m (W).
- 2.3. The ball remains "in play" if it bounces off the inflatable pitch around the perimeter of the field of play
- 2.4. The ball is "out of play" if it goes over the inflatable pitch placed around the perimeter of the field of play
- 2.5. There is no designated Penalty Area,
- 2.6. The inflatable pitches are the perimeter of the Field of Play
- RULE 3 – Equipment
- 3.1. All players must wear shoes (Trainers/Boots) (No Metal Studs)
- RULE 4 - Players, Rosters, And Substitutions
- 4.1. Five (5) players per team and no more than one (1) substitute
- 4.2 . There is a designated GOAL Keeper, who may use his hands in the field of play
- 4.3. Substitutions will be made on the fly, through the designated “Substitution Channel”. Substitutes can only enter the field of play once the other player has left the field through the “Substitution Channel” - decision taken by the team captain.
- RULE 5 - The Game
- 5.1. Coin toss - Winner shall receive the choice to kick-off.
- 5.2. Two halves – 10 minutes running time each half. 2 minutes break between rounds.
- 5.3. Overtime will only be played during playoffs. First scorer wins
- 5.4. A kick-off begins from the center of floor, on the referee's whistle.
- 5.5. The ball must travel forward from the kick off
- 5.6. Opposing players must be at least 2 meters from the ball at kick off
- 5.7. All Free Kicks are indirect. The ball may be kicked in any direction from a Free Kick.
- 5.8. When a player is taking a Free Kick, all opposing players shall remain at least 2 meters away until the ball is kicked.
- 5.9. There are no spot-kick penalties except in the case of a drawn game after extra time. The best of five penalty shoot-out will then progress and should it be a tie after best of five penalties then it will be sudden death penalties until one team scores and another does not.
- RULE 6 – Scoring
- 6.1 A goal is scored when the whole ball has passed over the goal line between the goal post and between the crossbar and floor, provided the ball has not been intentionally thrown, carried or propelled, by hand or arms, by a player of any side.
- 6.2. The match is re-started by a kick-off from the conceding team.
- RULE 7 – Out of Bounds
- 7.1. If the ball is kicked out of bounds (over the inflatable), play is re-commenced with a kick in from the point it crossed the side-line or by-line.
The team with the last contact with the ball concedes the kick in to the opposing team.
- RULE 8 - Fouls and Misconduct
- 8.1. A player shall be penalized if s/he intentionally spits, kicks, strikes, pushes, trips, and attempts to kick, strike, or jump at an opponent or official.
CONSEQUENCE: Offending player receives a 2-minute suspension with no replacement and concedes an indirect Free Kick.
- 8.2 Any player deliberately handling the ball will be penalized.

- 8.3 Pushing or forcing a player out of bounds.
CONSEQUENCE: Offending player receives a 2-minute suspension with no replacement and concedes an indirect Free Kick.
- RULE 9 – Acts Relevant To Misconduct Or Fighting
- 9.1 If any player is ejected from the game the team must play shorthanded for a period of 2 minutes. The player must leave the playing area immediately.
- 9.2 If an ejection occurs with less than 2 minutes to go in regulation play the remaining time will not be carried over into the team’s next game.
- 9.3 If a player is suspended twice in the same game, that player will not be allowed to return to the playing field for the remainder of the game
- RULE 10 - Tournament Points
- 10.1. The winning team gets 3 points. The losing team zero. If a match ends in a draw, each team gets 1 point
- 10.2 Criteria for team’s position within a group
